In the context of International year of millet 2023, PM has shared his vision to make IYM 2023 a people's movement and brand positioning India as Global hub of millets.
2023 was declared as International year of Millets by Food and agriculture organization (FAO) in UNGA's 75th session in March 2021, following a proposal raised/sponsored by India.
In December 2022, FAO hosted and conducted in Rome, the opening ceremony for International year of Millets-2023 celebrations, in which a delegation of Agriculture Ministry and Senior Government officials from India participated.
In April 2018, India re- branded Millets as 'Nutri-Cereals' and the same year was declared as 'National Year of Millets' by government.
Central Ministries have been allocated respective months in 2023 (IYM) to carry out promotional activities, across the country, for increasing awareness about millets and its benefits.
