On 23rd March 2023, Central minister for Agriculture,Shri. Narendra tomar launched National Crop Insurance portal’s digitized claims settlement module ‘digi claim’. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tomar said that it is a revolutionary step in ensuring that the farmers receive claim amount digitally, in time bound and automated manner. He also mentioned that claims amounting to ₹ 1.32 Lakh Crores have been disbursed to the insured farmers till date since inception under PMFBY Scheme.

This platform is designed to speed up disbursal of insurance claims to insured farmers who have taken crop insurance under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana(PMFBY) scheme, launched by PM Modi in 2016.

With the launch of this module, claims will be disbursed electronically to the concerned farmers bank account directly. The automated claims settlement process will be an ongoing activity as and when claims are released. Also, the farmers will be able to track the progress of the claims in real time basis using their mobile phones and access the benefit of the schemes more easily.

On the occasion of launch, insurance claims totaling to ₹ 1260 Crore that have been in claim, have also been disbursed to insured farmers in the state of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Haryana at click of button.

At present, 10 states (Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Telangana and West Bengal and 5 Union territories (Chandigarh, Dadar & Nagar Haveli- Daman & Diu, Delhi, Ladakh, Lakshadweep)  are not implementing the PMFBY.

Previously, the said states  have exited from the scheme due to reasons like financial constraints of the states and low claim ratio during normal seasons being major reason. Mr.Tomar informed that the Govt is in talks with the states regarding come back to this scheme in which Andhra Pradesh and Punjab are making a comeback to the scheme and Telangana, Jharkhand have indicated their willingness to come back under PMFBY.

This platform is developed by integration of national crop insurance portal and public finance management system.
