FCRA license of Centre for Policy Research, suspended
The FCRA license of think tank-Centre for Policy Research(CPR) has been suspended amid IT probe, by Ministry of Home Affairs, following prima facie inputs regarding non-compliance of FCRA provisions.
Previously FCRA license of CPR had expired in 2021 and was extended by a year due to COVID conditions then. In Sep 2022, as part of a probe relating to alleged FCRA contraventions, Income tax Department conducted searches in the premises of multiple NGOs including Oxfam and Centre for policy research on September 7 2022.With the suspension of license, CPR will not be able to receive any funds from abroad.
Pertinent to note that Donors of CPR included Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, University of Pennsylvania, World resources Institute, Omidyar Network, Namati Inc (Soros funded )Duke University, Mac Arthur foundation and other organizations.
According to 2020-21 annual report of CPR, it also receives grant from the Indian council of Social science research, state Government of Meghalaya and Ministry of Water Resources (CG).
